Q: iWeb doesn't open my domain.site2 in 10.9 os x mavericks

My domain site has been working fine until recently. Now when I clicked on the domain site or tried opening it in iWeb (ver 3.0.2), iWeb will display the blue loading bar showing that it's opening the site, but nothing happens afterwards. I have tried restarting the program and rebooting. A few days ago I have installed the new 10.9 os x mavericks and it's sitll not working. Does anyone know what could be the problem?

    Try the following:

1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your

         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.

2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your

User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).

    home.PNG

3 - launch iWeb and try again.

NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

If you're running Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:

If that doesn't help try the Workflow app that's described in the following:

To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"

    delay 1

    tell application "iWeb" to activate

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.

WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

I followed each step, my iWeb lauches now, but it doesn't show my website. When I click on my domain site file, iWeb opens and prompts me to choose a theme and when I do, it shows a blank unedited webpage ):

Many thanks to your response! I can open my webpage now! However, when I tried to publish it, there will always be a error box saying that an unknown error has occurred. I've tried creating a new domain file and delete it, then placing my domain file in the iWeb folder in my library, but that hasn't worked. Do you have any idea how we might solve this? Thanks!

Publish to where?  If not a folder on your hard drive try publishing to a folder.  Do you get the error message?

When i click publish site, a box pops up and says "a folder with the name ___ already exists on the server, do you wish to replace it" and i clicked yes. I suspect this has something to do with all the rearrangement of files that I had to do in order to get iWeb to open this domain file. After I clicked "replace", a loading box shows up and indicated that it was trying to publish all the pages, but eventually a box would say "publish error- an unknown error has occurred," thus terminating the process.

You should not get that message when publishing to the same location.  It should do the uploading without messages.

You may have to publish your site to a folder on the hard drive and use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck, Transmit or YummyLite to upload the site files.

Thanks for your suggestion, but when I tried publishing it to a local folder, I got the same error message about a publishing error..

Then it's a problem with iWeb and the site files.   Try this:  1 - create a new Test site. 2 - drag the first page of your existing site to the test site below it. 3 - publish the test site to a folder on the hard drive.   4 - if you can publish the test site successfully repeat Stepts 2 & 3 with page 2 of your original site. 5 - repeat for each page of your site until you find the page that won't let you publish.  That one you'll have to replace with a new page and recreate it.

I went back to an older version of the domail file in my time machine, and it seems that I could publish everything successfully now- it says "publishing now" "publishing completed" etc etc. However, when I visited the actualy website, the page still appears to be broke, it's just completely blank. Do you have any idea why this is happening? Thanks!

Empty your browser's cache (Command+Option+E for Safari) and reload the page.

I'm posting this question to Old Toad here because it relates to this discussion.

It seems that iWeb Switch Domain is working correctly for me in Mavericks 10.9.5. However....

I assumed that, in order to create a new individual domain file for each of the sites I have created in iWeb, I could dupe the original domain file, delete the other sites, and then have a new domain file with just one site. I would then do that for each of the sites. However, when I try to delete the site from the file, I get a message asking me if I want to delete the site itself. The only options I get are "Quit" and "Delete." But I DON'T want to delete the site itself. (Am I misunderstanding something?) So what do I do?
