Permissions repair

After installing Mavericks I ran Disk Utility to verify. The HD checked out OK, no problem. But after runnning Verify Disk Permissions, it returned like about a thousand "ACL found but not expected".

What is ACL? Why all these unexpected ACLs? Should I worry about it? Should I repair disk permissions? Should I even worry about permissions, whatever those are good for?

I don't want to mess up anything, everything is running pretty good without issues.

Thanks.

Those messages are nothing to worry about. Repairing permissions is used for troubleshooting.

ACL stands for Access Control List and it is present on every file and folder you have on your computer. It is a list controlling who can access files and folders, and in what way.

I suggest you repair disk permissions. Nothing bad can happen from repairing the permissions. Sometimes files need to be accessed by the system to perform certain functions. If the permissions on these files isn't correct, then problems might occur, even crashes of apps or services.
