Roundtripping parts of libraries
I export part of my main library so I can take it on a trip and work on it. Working on it means creating new Albums, adding keywords, faces, editing. How should I reimport the updated portion of the library?

You should be able to import the library back into your main Library using "File > Import > Library".
since you exported the partial library from that library you should se a prompt if you want to add or to merge. Select "Merge". And when prompted how to solve conflicts, select to keep the versions from the imported library.
See the Aperture Manual here: Working with Library Files
and look at the paragraph "Merging Libraries".

Ah, read the manual!
Thank you. I'm always a little nervous when I select something like a Merge. Which is taking precedence? But seeing your response and the fact that there is a conflict resolution aspect helps.
You might want to experiment with this on a few test libraries before you unleash it on your work libraries.
Aperture's merge can be a bit counterintuitive and not work exactly like you expect.
