Has anyone found a powered USB hub that works well with macs? I have a new mac mini and use it also for protools. I bought one from cable connect, and the keyboard and mouse would not work when it was connected, even if they were plugged directly into the computer.

That's good to hear. It will be tough to keep switching out cables if I can't find one that works. The mini has 4 ports, but they go fast! Del.
The other thing nice about using one that has several ports on top or in front. Is that you no longer have to reach around to plug USB devices or cables into the back of the Mac Mini.
Layout of the ports on the hub are important to me, even if others disagree. More space between them and placed on all sides helps.
I have one shaped in a flat square with 2 on each of 3 sides (the 4th side has power and computer connect) and one on top. "Convenient" may seem silly, bit I like it.
I tried a Sabrent usb hub. Awkward to position, unreliable, and broke wifi. I could really use a usb hub to move my laptop out of the way, use an external keyboard, and position the keyboard at an angle for ergonomics. Also to avoid having to switch cables all the time.
I have a Plugable USB 3 hub that works well, although I have not used it with my Mini yet. It does work fine with my MacBook Pro. If you get a USB3 hub, you may have to do some experimenting with its location relative to the Mini.
