Feb 17, 2014 7:31 AM in response to techcafeby umparrothead,Aw man, @techcafe, thought it just affected us on the 2010 Macbook Pro. Does your computer use Intel integrated graphics? On our machines, that's the card with the corruption. Unless it has gone bad, our Nvidia one should be fine (just hotter). But you're definitely right: it's a bug (or series of bugs) in Mavericks.

oh i'm pretty sure Apple knows by now that there are serious bugs with Mavericks on many machines, but they're keeping quiet about it, as they always do. i'd prefer that Apple just be honest with everyone here in this forum and issue a public statement, a mea culpa; "sorry folks, we messed this one up, but we're working on it" along with reassurance that the technical problems will be fixed asap. an apology wouldn't hurt either. see, a little honesty & decency can go a long way, people respect that; and the rest of us don't have to waste our time & effort reinstalling this finicky OS and replacing logic boards, et al. unfortunately, forthrightness doesn't seem to be an Apple company policy.

Feb 17, 2014 9:25 AM in response to techcafeby Ragged Apple,I have been following this and other threads related to the problem almost since installing Mavericks. Yes, if you disable Automatic Graphics Switching the problem goes away. But then, you lose a very useful asset for saving battery power and your machine gets ever hotter.
I agree and have also commented that Apple must be aware of the conversations about the problem. It is unbelievably arrogant of the company to ignore the swell of frustration building up around the world. My loyalty to Apple as a caring company is being sorely tested. In England we have a name for salesmen who dazzle you with their wares and then dump you when you discover you've been had. Yes, I feel that bad!!!

ummhmm, corporate arrogance and greed, there's a lot of that going around these days, and not just Apple
fwiw, i've reverted back to Mountain Lion, so that's my recommendation. or Snow Leopard, even better.

Feb 17, 2014 11:15 AM in response to rbdancerby rbdancer,Update on my original post: I actually started to notice massive speed drops when switching between apps, which I do frequently. Long spinning beach ball of death stretches encouraged me to change methods. Instead of disabling the graphics compression, this morning I turned off graphics switching. So far my blood pressure is lower and I have not noticed any unusual heating. The fan has yet to come on, and I have five apps open at the moment.
Until Apple steps up and fixes the problem in Mavericks, this to me is a more acceptable workaround that does not impair my productivity. Battery life is not a big issue for me as I usually have power available if I need a recharge.

Feb 25, 2014 9:09 AM in response to dolamaby GQAC,Have you found a resolution to this? It just started happening to my Mac Mini as well! Its so annoying...
-
Feb 25, 2014 9:28 AM in response to GQACby dolama,Yes, the good ol' deep reset procedure: switch off PC, disconnect power cable, wait 5 minutes, reconnect power cable, switch on PC.
After this, it never happened again.
I also had another problem happening in parallel: the screen was blinking randomly when I used the mini with screen sharing from my Macbook Pro.
I found out that the problem was with the HDMI connection to my Home Theatre receiver and from there to the TV.
Apparently this is a known issue of the mac mini, so I simply disconnected the HDMI cable and now all runs smooth, but I can't use the TV as screen for the mini.
Try and let us know if the reset works for you as well.

Feb 25, 2014 10:28 AM in response to GQACby dolama,For the flashing try disconnecting the HDMI and use the mini with screen sharing from another PC, and see if it works.
