Installed Maverick to my OSX 10.9 in the hope of not purchasing another computer just yet and alas, my cannon MP160 scanner is not being recognised by the computer, a message is received stating scanner is not connected when indeed it is? Help please anyone?

Many thanks for the info. I searched to discover VueScan and downloaded this app in the hope my scanner may work since my installing Maverick to my imac, it has not?Dash, what to do?
VueScan is supposed to be a very good app, I'm sure they will make a driver for your printer. Let us know!

Thanks again, alas, not getting too far with VueScan either and nothing has changed? My computer keeps on telling me my scanner is not connected with either image capture and now VueScan?
I nearly purchased Clean up my Mac but thought twice about this as now I have this new system to caputer scanned images and to also print documents etc, now zero on both counts?Oh, one big sigh!
Try running Repair Disk Permissions is Disk Utility. Also try re-installing the drivers Canon supplies from their website.
In my case the printer MP160 is not listed in USB drivers list and completely doesn't work. Please help.
Alas, "Repair Disk Permissions" in Disk Utilitiy has not worked either? I am not too sure what else to do?
Unfortunately Cannon does not support the printer either or there is no mention of the type of scanner I have? So I have left a message and asked for support?

If nothing supports the device then maybe it is time to replace it. However before giving up I would contact VueScan and see if they can help. They support many many legacy scanners.
Yes, I will try VueScan tomorrow, I am on a deadline today for tomorrow and am nowhere finished due to this problem. Ouch, I have a head ache!

The VueScan software works for me with my MP160 scanner. I just gave it a try after reading this thread. Before reading I had the same problem with no driver being detected.
Try to download the Canon driver suite:

Install driver for MP140, it is said to work on MP160 as well.

For those with running Mavericks and having trouble scanning with Canon Printer MP160, go to applications then open the "canon utilities" folder. Open MP Navigator 3.0. click on "Scan/Import" icon then click on "open scanner driver". Proceed with the scan and smile 🙂.
I dont think you need any new software insallation. Opening the scanner via Navigator worked well for me.
