Hinges on macbook air broken

I have a 2008 MacBook Air, and the hinges are broken (i have to hold it up by books). I didn't do anything wrong, I just set it on the table to get a glass of water, I heard something slam on the table, and there was the display of my laptop on the table. It was completly flat. Also the screen is making the whites either purple or green. I didnt do anything and want to know how this can be fixed.

So, it fell back on its own, breaking BOTH hinges (youd have to break BOTH to have it fall full back)......and purple lines? Hmm.

purple vertical lines indicate the LCD is cracked and therefore the LCD destroyed.

Yes, make appt. with Apple for inshop parts replacement of the friction hinges and monitor. 😊
