Is your iphone4 nearly out of space? Try deleteing some of the bigger apps for now.
When I try to update my iPhone 4 to iOS 7.0.3, the download goes on way too long then comes up with the message 'an error has occurred' with no explanation at all. I have tried turning off and various apps and different settings but to no avail.....
I seem to have plenty of space but I will give that a try.. Thanks
If you do it OTA (directly from iPhone), you need at least 3.5 GB.
If you connect to computer iTunes and update, you do not need that much space.

Does the 7.0.3 update need 3.5GB, that much space too, like the upgrade to ios7.0?

I am having the same issue with my iPhone 4, I am unable to upgrade to iOS 7.0.3, I didn't really want to except that it looks like Iam unable to access my games & facebook if I don't upgrade my software (my games & facebook won't load)
I tried:
-Restarting my phone
-Battery is 100%
-Removing some games & now have 6.62 GB free memory space on my phone
Error says:
"Software Update Unavailable" Software Update is not available at this time. Try again later.

I have tried 3 times to update my IPhone 4S to 7.0.3 and it goes through all the download steps and prepares for installation then stops and says that the download failed. There is plenty of space on the phone so I have no idea why this will not work. It would appear with all the problems people are experiencing with this new iOS version it could be a good thing that I cannot update.
I connected my iPhone 4 running iOS 7.0.2 to iTunes and it told me an update was available. ABout 10-15 minutes later the download was complete, and the update installed with no issues. My iPhone 4 is working fine withtout any of the probelms you allude to, soi I don't see why you feel that iOS 7.0.3 is all bad. Most people who don't have any problems with their updates don't need to come here to look for assistance, so you won't see them posting about how smooth an easy their install was...

I am having the same problems that just started occurring last week. I have a brand new iphone 4s straight out of the box with no other 3 rd party apps installed. I have downloaded the ipsw file to my PC. I have turned off the anti virus software to test it and still get the same error. Battery life is 100 % and 13GB free space.
Perhaps someone else had the same issues and knows of a fix.
