iOS 7 Lockscreen timer display bug
Description: Timer countdown display on lockscreen is wrong if the iPhone was last restarted in a different time zone.
My configuration: iOS 7.0.3, iPhone 5s
Example: I last restarted the iPhone in New York. I then travel to, say, Chicago, and allow the iPhone to sync to the local time zone so that the iPhone now shows Chicago time. In Chicago, I set a timer in the Clock app for, say, three hours and start the countdown. But on the lock screen, the timer display erroneously shows two hours. After two hours, the lockscreen display eventually counts down to zero and then jumps back to 1 hour and continues countdown until the whole three hours have elapsed and the alarm goes off. The error in the lock screen timer display is the same as difference in time between the current time zone and the time zone the iPhone was last restarted in. The Clock app always shows the correct countdown.
I haven’t tested the iPad and other iPhone models but I imagine they would have the same problem as this appears to be an iOS-level bug.
Temporary fix: Restart the iPhone in the current time zone if it had been previously restarted while in another time zone.
There are others that have posted messages with similar problems. I have already submitted feedback to Apple. As always, it will be buried in a mountain of bug reports unless there is enough visibility and user complaints to bring it into the spotlight.
