Hyperactive Spell Checker

Almost every time I use a comma in any IPad app it changes commas to exclamation marks. like so! and thus! and this! it is infuriating. I don't watch the screen for obvious things like is, instead watching the keyboard or thinking. So I have to go back and individually change these stupid! obvious, and simple errors? the number of times I use a comma outweighs the number of times I would use an exclamation point by 1000 to 1.

How can I stop this happening?

Alternatively! how do I get Apple to fix this bloody obvious fault.

Currently I want to smash my iPad, with ios7, to pieces.

iPad 2, iOS 7

Turn off Auto-Correction

Settings>General>Keyboard>Auto-Correction>Off

Hi Dalton have you resolved it yet? Because I have the same problem and it is extremely frustrating! Using iPad2 updated to IOS7. I never had the problem, until I updated to IOS7. Diavonex's suggestion to switch off auto-correct is not the answer because I still want the auto-correct function.

hi Wally, the short answer is no, i haven't found a real solution. I've turned off autocorrect. but like you say. this isn't good enough. iOS7 is a real problem. last time zi update before it's necessary.

let me know if you find a better solution.

I came here looking for an answer to the same question. I totally agree with Dalton and Wally. What makes Apple think we couldn't possible have meant to type a comma, and must have meant to use an exclamation point? And why does it only change 4 out of 5 commas, randomly, and not all of them? I use the auto correct feature a lot, because it's not real easy to type on the iPad anyway, so if I miss a letter! or hit b or n instead of the space bar! the auto correct comes in handy; but I feel ridiculous! posting to Facebook with exclamation points where I meant to put commas.

Short of repeating what everyone else is saying, I have the same problem and it's driving me nuts. Is Apple planning a solution?

I went to Settings > General > Keyboard and turned off the setting that automatically puts a period after double spacing, and it seemed to cure the comma replacement thing, too.

I ran a couple of test posts on Facebook and reddit, just to make sure, and I'm posting this reply on my iPad which is leaving the commas alone.

I thought I was the only one having this problem. Supposedly, spell check/predictive typing is supposed to learn as we use it. You'd think it would be learning after so many times of having to change ! back to , it would learn.
