Wifi disconnects after sleep and takes long time to reconnect with Mavericks

Since upgrading to Mavericks whenever my MacBook Air goes to sleep (if I leave it idle) the wifi disconnects and it can take up to a minute to reconnect when it wakes.

Basically what happens is, as soon as it wakes I have no internet connection, the WiFi indicator is pulsing, meaning it is searching for networks, but it takes ages to find any, then after some time, usually between 30 secs and a minute all the networks in my building pop up and it instantly at that point reconnects to my WiFi network.

It is incredibly frustrating I was so used to the Mac being an instant on tool, now it takes longer to get on the internet than booting up my windows PC.

Any ideas what might have caused this?

Found plenty of suggestions but the one solve I got was this: http://www.flynsarmy.com/2013/12/how-to-stop-osx-10-9-mavericks-from-sleeping-wh en-display-turns-off/

Essentially it's one line you enter in terminal.

Now my rMBP 2013 doesn't put wifi to sleep if the display goes off. Hence I can leave things like big software updates to download without having to switch the display to always on.

Can't believe it's not a FEATURE. How else am I meant to download software/updates from Creative Cloud for instance?

I think is incredible to pay for apple computers and OSX , and IOS after all this expressions

of disrespect concerning users THEY CANT release an operativ system whit this bug,

the problem, is how long it will take to us apple fans to realize , that the only thing that remains

of the old and reliable computers is the apple logo. Please note how long takes to this post

to be censored.

I've experienced this issue, on my brand-new rMBP 2013. Here's what fixed it:

0) Turn off Bluetooth if it's on :-)

1) Deleting the Bluetooth configuration file (i.e. sudo rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist)

2) Removing the affected wi-fi network (i.e. deleting it from the list in System Preferences) and re-adding it.

Everything now works like a charm. I presume this is because the radio kit is probably one chip -- they're both modulated around a 2.4 GHz carrier frequency, and presumably something somewhere has a persistent bit of EEPROM that was misbehaving.

I've been searching through this thread and others for a solution to my wi-fi dropping on a brand new Mac Mini 2.5 running Mavericks 10.9.4 (as in just a few days old), so I hesitate to reinstall the OS because I don't think that will solve the issue since I just got the mac.

I've tried everything posted, and still no joy. Sure, I can get it to work for a while, sometimes for hours, but once it starts dropping it gets progressively worse until I have to reboot again. I feel like I might as well place a dead chicken in a bag and wave it around my head three times; that would probably work too. For a while.

I've got a nearly-new Netgear dual band router that provides great service throughout my condo. I've tried the mac on 2.4 and 5 Ghz and the result is the same--the wi-fi eventually drops. Works great on my iPad mini, my son's Kindle (all over the condo), his Asus laptop in his room in the farthest corner of the condo, my iPhone, and my iPod. And in case you're wondering, I only share the 5 Ghz with my iPad, which is a moot point since that bandwidth is huge and I get full bars in my bedroom where the iPad and the Mini are. I've moved it around the place with the same results.

It just doesn't work. Thursday, I'm going to take it into campus, and try it out with the university's wi-fi, which works great too. I seriously doubt that the results will be any different..

I'm a big Apple fan, and I even did tier I support for a year for a contractor at Apple back in 2005, so I'm not completely out of my element. Something is not quite right here, and I really wish Apple would begin to take notice (It usually takes a spike in their metrics.), and join in on the conversation.
