Mavericks system hang on Older MacBook Pro's as well

this problem is Not unique to recent MBP's, Haswell, blah, blah, as implied in this thread:

https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5481839

i've experienced identical symptoms repeatedly on my 15" mid-2007 MBP 2.4gHz Core 2 Duo with 6g (note, this is more than the 4g Apple officially okays for the machine, but is widely used and has never caused a problem previously), which was upgraded from 10.7.5 via the App Store. the mouse and all keys are unresponsive, requires holding down the power key for 10 secs to power down and then cold restart.

over the days since the Mavericks release, i've run many experiments, stripping out startup items, etc, with no change. however, it Does seem somehow related to sleep, in that it has happened 3-4x immediately after wake from sleep, and yesterday i ran for several hours without it crashing, during which i did not allow it to sleep. [n.b., it Did freeze once after i let the display sleep, but not the processor]

i've taken to shutting the machine down if i'm going to be away for a few hours, instead of sleeping it, and not allowing it to sleep in other situations, and thus far that seems to be working.

MacBook Pro (15-inch 2.4/2.2 GHz), OS X Mavericks (10.9)
