Q: Is Numbers 3.0 the WORST upgrade ever?

I really don't have time to re-learn Numbers.  I have lost so much functionality, fill colors, things don't match, cells and formulas not working the same way.  I am now going to export my daily spreadsheets in Excel and stop using Numbers.  I liked Numbers, but it is useless to me now.

    I totally agree with you.

They should just rebrand this product

"NUMBERS LITE SO THAT YOU CAN USE THE SAME FILES ON INB OSX & IOS"

    Very disappointed Apple user

I cant imagine a spreadsheet without transpose copy/paste.. but i made with it and i managed to survive in the last year with numbers... i'm was very big user of excel but my boss made us change for apple a year ago. i tried excel mac but its laggy and dont have vba so i made the switch like i said i survived but now with the recent release of numbers its worse than ever i'm pretty sure i will not survive this downgrade

I cant even multi sort my spreadsheet !!! how can you work in a spreadsheet if you cant sort it properly its the basics in my opinion !!! you can only sort one collumn at a time !!! why ???

you cant change margin if you want to print somthing without the 1 inch thick margin you just cant ! We were able to do it a couple week ago and now we cannot... its not because i dont know how i verified its just not possible since the 3.0 version.

The bar with the sheets name is now horizontal... ok i can live with it but can you please put a drag bar or something because clicking my 50 sheets long database to reach the last %#@$ sheet is way too long. there is drag bar everywhere why i cant have one in my spreadsheet ??

that is it for now one day of work and a headache later i'm downloading filemaker to see if i can do somthing with that and i'm harrassing my boss to switch back to windows for the next month you can be sure.

Sorry for this negative post full of mistake (i'm french) but i needed it to feel better and let know the world my feeling about that software i almost started to like in the last couples weeks before that horrible downgrade.

cant multi sort, cant transpose copy/paste, cant edit margin.... pff i'm discouraged

Unless you trashed it Numbers 2.3 is still on your Mac, in a sub folder within your Applications folder named iWork '09 or similar.

Nothing has been taken away from you. You've now got a new app, for free, that you can use or not use according to your needs.

Apple has announced that development on Numbers 3 will continue and that multicolumn sort and certain other features will be added back in sometime over the next six months.

We're all just fellow users here, so feedback to Apple is better given via Numbers>Provide Numbers Feedback in your menu.

Glad it helped. It certainly would have helped if Apple could have explained that Numbers 2.3 isn't removed during an update, just moved to a subfolder. Failure to explain that has confused countless people.  Well, looking on the bright side, maybe they're too busy fixing Numbers 3 to worry about details like that.

The newest version of Excel or Mac has VBA as far as i know. IT does nto support all the references you can use on the windows machines, but the core funtionality is there. It is also (mostly) scriptable through applescript, which the new downgrade for numbers is not anymore.

    Hi Jason,

I haven't tried AppleScript with Excel (which is a real workhorse of a program) but I was happy to see in Apple's support document that some AppleScript support will be restored in Numbers 3 sometime in the next six months.

You may like to hear how Apple are planning to dilute the vitriol poured upon them by reading this:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT6049?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

Beats me why they didn't do it in the first place, but it sounds like it'll take six months to make the changes if they're to be believed...

    Hi BigMcAl,

That looks like exactly the same link I have in the post just above yours.

They say "releases in the next 6 months."  That could (but does not necessarily) mean "it'll take six months to make the changes."  We'll see.

I try to be the optimist. I suspect their plans for Numbers and iWork were put in place long before the venting on these forums and in the App Store.  But with the "feedback" they've now got a better idea how to prioritize the next steps.

They've done a good job, I think, in finally getting the cross-platform sync to work well. It really does work, whereas it didn't with the old Numbers. That's a tough nut to crack. With a solid base to work from, maybe they'll have some good things for us before too long.
