Q: How to get a bluetooth keyboard that won't pair to pair

I have a Bluetooth keyboard model A1314 that was working perfectly fine until one day, it dropped the connection to its host Mac Mini and wouldn't reconnect. I tried setting up again in Bluetooth setup, but it just gave a "couldn't connect to device" failure.

I searched high and low and finally found this article "RESETTING MY APPLE BLUETOOTH WIRELESS KEYBOARD TO WORK ON MY IPAD 2" http://www.tonyjworld.com/2012/03/resetting-my-apple-bluetooth-wireless-keyboard -to-work/ which reported a procedure I'd seen once elsehwere, which involved pressing and continuously holding the power button on the keyboard through the pairing process. Unfortunately this did not work for me, when connecting to my Mac.

SOLUTION: What I found was that by doing the exact same thing but connecting to an iPad, it worked! Once connected I was able to disconnect from the iPad, and connect to another Mac as normal.

There may not be a factory reset procedure for the wireless keyboard, but this is pretty close (the assigned name was still there, so it's not a full factory reset).
