Super-Bug: Quicktime export in Keynote 6 is faulty

Good catch! I just ran into this problem. I do presentations that include clips of upcoming PBS shows and sometimes need to pack the whole thing into Quicktime for others to use when I'm not available. I just spent an hour trying to fix this issue and look for workarounds, but ultimately gave up and moved back to Keynote '09. I sure hope Apple fixes this.

Moving back to 5.3 seems to fix most issues, as the issues are specifically built into Keynote 6 and many cannot be worked around.

There are many optimists who imagine Apple cares about legacy users with gigabytes of extant Keynote presos. They fancy Apple will be quick to fix any and all issues surrounding the kludge called Keynote 6.

I am not so sanguine.

If Keynote 6 is your first foray into presentations, you might be able to get it to sometimes work (ish) for your simplest presos. All other users can be dismissed.

Try recording a slideshow. I create presentations with narration inserted into each slide. I then simply recorded a slideshow which meant sitting through the presentation and advancing the slides. I exported the recorded slideshow to QuickTime (and from there to Youtube) without any problems. The manual advance option is not preserved. However, it appears that exporting to HTML allows for manual advance, but I found problems with inserted audio.

So I ran into exactly the same problems and know keynote and powerpoint inside out... have made more than 500 presentations for on-line viewing by students through the years. I am frankly at my wits end with Keynote 6. I have tried recording qt audio and embedding in multiple different sound formats. I have recorded presentation audio by "recording" my presentation. EVERY time I export it to QT, the sound either doesn't sync, doubles up, cuts off, or plays prior edits given the actual route I've gone. I'm not new to this, and I am using the most up to date mac pro with super fast processor, and nothing has worked for me. I feel your pain, but nobody at apple seems to care.

The good news is that Office Mac 2014 is now rumored to come out in March or April 2014. They often get it right, but now with icloud only working with mac products, I've tried (unsuccessfully) to get used to Keynote.

Keynote presenting live - better than Powerpoint

Keynote recording presentations - Simply does not work unless your presenation is super short, simple and you never ever edit any of the audio narrations.... It is unlike any other apple product or software in its bugginess and inferiority. Don't know how they could let this happen.

I'll let you know if I find a work-around. For now, I'm taking photos of slides, and recording and editing audio in iMovie and recording the show that way.... big pain!

I was having the same problem with my Keynote file. The file contained text and images and an audio track - with no embedded video. MY FIX: I split the keynote slide deck into 3 parts (3x12 slide decks instead of 1x36 slide deck) and removed the audio track. After a couple of tries, I managed to export my 3 separate Quicktime files, and then brought the whole thing back together in iMovie. If you're stuck, like I was, this might be your an option.

Which specific issue are you referring to, many of the QuickTime faults have been fixed as of Keynote 6.1. Perhaps the Quicktime export moduleannoyingly still not using individual slide timings?

What do you mean by "slide deck", there is no such feature in Keynote?

The Specific issue: Keynote failed to export to quicktime. Whilst exporting, the progress bar freezes - often at a different point each time I tried to export. The only thing to do in this situation was a force quit.

Slide deck = Slides. I separated my entire slideshow into 3 separate slideshows.

That issue has been fixed in Keynote 6.1, if you don't have it, download from the Mac App Store.

I'm using Keynote 6.1. If the problem has been fixed, maybe I've highlighted a new problem.

I have had many problems exporting Keynote to Quicktime. Before the Mavericks version, I could insert my audio files with build timings and such; then, I could simply export to Quicktime. Mavericks would not simply do that. Instead, I record a slideshow. The slideshow can then be exported.

There were no problems for a time, then I had the problem that others have mentioned: during the export to Quicktime, the status bar would freeze and then I had to force quit the program with no Quicktime file. I tried doing several things and I am not sure exactly how I discovered this, but if I export to Powerpoint first and then export to Quicktime, it does the job just fine.

i am having similar issues trying to export to powerpoint from keynote. i want it to embed the sound and video files into the presentation itself so i can share it with other music teachers (sound = sound files of instruments; and video examples) and cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it now. it just isnt.

I am pretty sure that as a matter of course Keynote does not export the audio to a PowerPoint presentation (as opposed to a malfunction). However, if you ,are a slideshow recording, then export to PowerPoint, you should then be able to successfully export to QuickTime. This can then be uploaded to YouTube directly or through iMovie (there are advantages and disadvantages either way). If you do not want to make a video, you can export to HTML. However, as I do not do this, there may be other problems or it may work out just fine.

Splitting my Keynote 6.1 presentation into two files enabled me to export at 1920x1080 resolution using the Quicktime » Apple ProRes option.

Yes, I have this problem too. Very disappointed that I up-graded to a more backwords operating system (from Mtn. Lion (it worked using my times instead of default fixed times) to Maverick,...and now the whole process of doing transitions and build in and outs is primative.
