I had the same problem as you Monstef, my inbox folder nerver showed up, but it was available by click on the outlook acccount, I also found all my other folders downloaded and slowly updated to the point where I had kicked off the sycnhronisation.

but no further updates came in after that, but I went to outlook.com, setup an outlook alias, waited for thr outlook alias request to be completed and confirmation email received.

I then set up outlook using the alias and hey presto it all worked.

Let me know if you have set up an alias please.

    Cheers,

    Al

    Hi AlSBee

And hello to anyone with this same problem!!

You have come to the right place to correct it!!!!!!

    AlSBee

You have just managed to help me fix a problem that has been nagging at me for like 4 months!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had the same problems as Monstef here...

I tried everything, looked at every forum and help site I could!

    Asked here and in Microsoft...

Even went out and purchased and Tried using AIRMAIL

    Still not working

    Asked THIER (airmail) support.....

    nothing..

all the answers I recieved were revolving around the hotmail IMAP settings which I KNEW I had put in right...

We even had people like Csound1 here who, even though was trying his best to help, was losing a little bit of his patience and telling us to go complain with Microsoft!!  He was only trying to help I know...

Now by creating an outlook alias....

I can most DEFINATELY confirm "It is finally WORKING!!!!"

I can NOT THANK you enough!!!!!!

hmmmm were do I put in the sign that says "this solved it for me" ??!!

    For AISBee and Monstef,

I am having a similar problem.  Our iMac crashed today and all of our accounts in Mail disappeared.  I spoke with Apple and it looks like we are somewhat back in business.  However, as part of the solution, the Apple tech guy had me add my old hotmail account back in to Mail.  When I did, it set it up as an IMAP account instead of the old POP account. Okay, no problem really.  All of my hotmail subfolders from the server are back, but my primary inbox is not. I went to outlook.com as you suggested to see about adding an alias, but I already have an alias.  Thoughts?  Appreciate everyone's help.

Glad I could help do chased . . . I knew it had to be something on the outlook side of things as only Outlook uses IMAP, not hotmail.

Not sure how to add resolved icons, but the post looks like it has to be the originator.

    Happy mailing!! :-)

Montsef, go to outlook.com and sign in with your hotmail address and password.

Go to settings (the cog icon usually at the upper right part of your account screen) and set up an alias for outlook.

This simply sets up your current email address ending in hotmail.com or hotmail.co.uk to point to an alias with outlook.com, which can then be used with the IMAP settings you configure in mail on your macbook.

Yu then wait for a confirmation email to come back stating your alias has been setup.

I did have my mail account already set up, so removed it and re-created it to be sure, this now works without any issue.

Hope this helps . . Post back and let me know...

    Cheers,

    Al

    Grcowan:

Did you add your hotmail account back in or did you add it back in using your email alias with the outlook.com domain as the account?

If you used hotmail then you are not taking advantage of the IMAP setting available to your outlook alias, this at this point in time (just before I hit the sack) is only thing I can think of.

Le pt me know the answer . .

    Cheers

    All,

I have suggested this to others and it has worked for them

Sign in to outlook.com using your hotmail account and password, go to settings and set up an alias for outlook.com to point to your hotmail account.

Yu will receive a confirmation the email alias has been set up, you can then configure mail to use the outlook.com alias with the IMAP prefixed and settings, which then should work without issue.

    Hope this helps.

The only problem is we evidently don't "own" our xxxxx@outlook.com e-mail alias.  Someone else has it, somone in the UK I think.  Not sure how that happened. Maybe we didn't claim it quickly enough when outlook.com started.

Hi so I tried logging on to another wifi network to see if it made a difference but it didnt. However, I have now logged on to my home network and it has started downloading my inbox! however VERY slowly but given I have 15000 emails to download. so I didnt need to do the outlook alias thing. So, no idea what the issue was.

So my last post was on 24 April and only today have all my

Messages been cached (not sure what it means exactly) from my hotmail. The only reason I knew things were happening was because I kept the activity window in the mail app open. I also noticed the downloading would stop if the signal was even slightly weaker. So I ended up leaving my laptop next to the router. It has been a complete pain and I hope I don't have to experience that again.

    That's incorrect.

Hotmail, Live Mail and Outlook Mail all use Imap.
