Will a sprint iPad Air be carrier locked or can it be used on other carriers

I would like to buy an iPad Air for Sprint, however, sprints LTE offerings at this point pretty much suck. Will I be able to purchase a sprint iPad and put another carrier's SIM, such as AT&T or T-Mobile in it until such time that sprint's LTE offerings have matured?

Unlike the iPhone, the GSM portion of all US-sold iPads, including for Sprint, is not locked. From the Apple Store web page for the iPad Air:

iPad Air with Wi-Fi + Cellular can roam worldwide on GSM/UMTS networks. In countries without compatible LTE networks, iPad Air will operate on GSM network technologies such as HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. When you travel internationally, you can use a nano-SIM card from a local carrier.

A Sprint-model iPad may not be officially supported on another US carrier, but it should work.

Regards.
