Nov 24, 2013 3:41 AM in response to edo.mby Philip Chapman,Hi
Since Mavericks I had 3 main issues; no right click on Trackpad or Mouse, Time Machine taking forever to back-up (stuck on preparing back-up) and Spotlight continually indexing, without actually doing anything and causing the system to be very slow.I tried all manner of tips and tricks from this and other forums - nothing worked. Finally, I decided to do a clean install over Mavericks, by making an install USB drive. SuperDuper back-up first! However, the clean install did not work, instead I managed to reinstall Mavericks over the top of my system.
All three issues have gone!
Time spent on other well meaning tips and tricks (which might work for you) = many hours
Time spend reinstalling Mavericks = 45 minutes (no issues, but it might not work for you)… so maybe worth a try?
Good luck.

I would like to try the clean install but I don't know how to do it.. is there any guide to follow? moreover, will i loose everything I have on my computer? I'm using time machine, so I have backups, can I do the clean install of mavericks and then use the backup from time machine? -
Nov 24, 2013 3:25 PM in response to edo.mby Philip Chapman,Hi edo.m
Sorry to hear that, this type of fix usually works... there is lots of help available on how to do a clean install, just Google it. Here is one example: http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/two-more-ways-to-create-an-os-x-10-9-mav ericks-usb-drive--mac-55699
Yes you will lose everything, so you need to be backed up in two different ways/places.

Nov 25, 2013 5:30 AM in response to edo.mby Brian Smith7,It seemed the SMC reset helped, for a while. The problem was more with my trackpad than my keyboard. It would connect, lose connection, connect, lose connection- sometimes for as long as five minutes. After it finally established a connection it would be fine until the next time my iMac went to sleep.
A couple of days ago I put fresh batteries in my trackpad and haven't had the problem since. Now, I had not gotten a warning my batteries were low, like I usually do. And, in the past when the batteries were low, it did not behave like this. So, weird...
My suggestion- do the SMC reset and put fresh batteries in your devices. Can't hurt...
