Problems with mail viewing options

Hello apologies in advance should my question sound silly but I am really going nuts!

I'm trying to switch from OutlookforMac to mail Mac (considering the Mavericks upgrade) but I cannot display the mail messages as I want.

I don't like the conversation viewing and want to stick to the traditional list viewing.

The problem is that if I sort the Inbox messages with the field FROM then the outbox is also sorted with FROM instead of TO. It seems that I cannot personalise the viewing for each folder - even though it would be normal to think that you want to see the Sender in your Inbox and the Recipient in your Sent Items Box ...

Can anyone help me with this? I am sure there must be a solution!
