With the release of Pages 5.0 I no longer seem to be able to insert images into table cells. Has anyone found a way to keep this feature? Opening older Pages documents in 5.0 removes existing images, too!

You can't insert images in table anymore. If you need to do it use the older Pages 09 insterad. You should still have it in the application folder > iwork
I've found that I can drag and drop an image into a cell if it's a new document. The image becomes a background fill as opposed to an inserted image. Sort of okay, but all my old docs lose their images when opened in 5.0.
I've written Apple about it!
Rate it one star in the App Store and say why.
Apple knows all this, telling them is fairly pointless. They will pay more and more attention, the more Apple customers get wise to what they have done.

Yes, they know what can and can't be done int heir new program, but they don't know how many people its affecting. Unless we speak up.

Pages 4 is still in an iWork folder within your Applications folder. You can use that to get work done.
First, if you don't have a backup of the file you were working with, use "Export as... Pages 4.3" to make the file compatible with the older version.
No point torturing yourself with Pages 5 while the better option is still right there.

Pardon me Peter but I must disagree. Users should absolutly tell Apple about any problems and issues they might have with thier products. Here is the specific place to do so for Pages:

In all the excitement of the new version, I had totally forgoten all my feedback over the last 4 years, asking for over 90 features to be removed, and most importantly for any new version to be incapable of opening previous files without breaking them.
You are right, Apple does listen.
