Safari is loading pages very slow and Adobe apps need to be force quit after waking

I'm running fairly old hardware, have been for awhile, but these issues are fairly recent. Safari is almost unusable; it loads pages as slow or slower than the dial-up connection I had on my old iMac in '05. Also, my Adobe apps are unresponsive after I wake my machine from sleep in the morning, usually requiring a force quit.

I plan on upgrading to Adobe CC and Mavericks (if and when the kinks are ironed out) but for now, this is my work computer. Can anyone look at my specs and give me some clue as to why these issues are happening? Thanks in advance.
