Preview in Finder Couldn't Open PDF

Hi there,

I have a PDF file located at the shared network drive. When I tried to open the PDF file by double click or right-click Open With.... the PDF couldn't been open. But if I open Preview app, goto File > Open and navigate to the shared network location and pick the PDF file, then everything is OK.

I wonder what went wrong and why out of sudden with such strange behavior? I was able to double click open it before upgraded to Mavericks OS.

Is Preview still set up as the default app for PDF? You can check it via right-click > get info > open with. Click on the list and find 'Preview' and then click on 'Change All...' below that so it's set for all PDFs.

that does not seem to help any. I can open it when i use Preview but not when using Finder.

When does that error message appear? You've got a jpeg file highlighted to open with Preview. Does that work?

when I double click the JPEG or PDF to open from finder. No the error then pops up .

OK try to force quit finder. was having same issue did the force quit finder and now I'm good again.

That's as good a solution as any :-) Make sure Preview opens ALL PDFs and not just that one you selected, otherwise you'll have to change the preferenced app like you did before.
