I'm actually trying to buy a used MacBook Pro and the seller says that the battery indicator lights do not light up when he presses the button. He also said that the battery is functioning properly and does maintain a full charge. I'm just wondering if there is a serious problem and if I should pass on buying this a Mac?

You can confirm this yourself by having the seller show you the battery information in System Profile.

Here is what the seller wrote after he plugged in the MacBook Pro all day and read the info when he got home from work:

Those numbers are way too high. The seller should have also notified you of the battery health which is also in the system profiler.
Ask the seller to send you a screen shot of the battery power which should also include the health information.
These were the number at 49 percent ( before he charged it up all day). He says it's a four year old battery.
