i don't want or need to be seeing the time at the top of the screen unless i need to know what the time is... i have a bit of tape stuck over it, but it makes accessing the notification tab a bit of a pain...

"not likely", but thats just your guess, yeah... given that my other iThings have this ability, thinking logically, you would have to assume it's just low on the list of priorities... not wrong in thinking there is a million other things that need fixing first...
Yeah, it's just my guess. If there is a way to hide the clock on other iOS devices as you claim, I don't know how to do it, without jail breaking the device that is.
But like I said, I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for Apple to give us the ability to hide it.
You cannot remove the time from the top of the screen. You never could remove it, and it's not likely to change in a future update.
