Q: New rMBP sleep/wake failure crashes

I'm using the new Retina MacBook Pro running Mavericks, and in the short span I've used it I've encountered a problem multiple times where the machine crashes during sleep. (I also tend to leave my WD external hard drive plugged in, if that makes any difference.)

I have two error logs, but since they are quite lengthy I have made them viewable in this Evernote:

I have same problem with sleep wake failure with brand new MBP 15" Retina. I have a WD USB 2.0 drive plugged in. I rarely close the lid; instead, I put computer to sleep manually. So the sleep wake issue occurred on Dec 2 and today, Dec 10, but not every time the computer goes to sleep.

I unmounted and unplugged the drive and will see if that fixes issue. I talked with apple support and sent them the sleep wake failure reports. they look pretty similar to what's been posted.

Sorry guys but I really think this issue is a hardware issue...... I returned my computer that was giving me the probelm.... I ordered a new one and it shipped straight from China..... I set it up exactly the same and it hasn't given me the error at all. In Fact the computer is running way faster and also giving me better geekbench scores.... I thought it was a little weird that everyone I talked to on the phone support and Geniuses in the store were all saying to return it without trouble shooting. They may not want to admit there is a problem but are telling people to return it because they know of the issue?

good luck to everyone this will probably be my last post on this thread.... unless I wake up tomorrow with the error

I've already made three changes and errors still happen.

I still think it is a mistake of mavericks

I can only talk from my personal experiences..... right now I have 3 Maverick machines.... 2010 Macbook pro, late 2013 i7 imac, and late 2013 MBP 2.6 ghz

the only computer that had this problem was the first late 2013 MBP I owned, now that is returned and everything else is working great!

Others have had the same experience as me....

I changed my late MBP 2013 three times, in the last I formatted and I installed Mountain Lion and the problem is gone, it is a problem of "SOFTWARE", not good going into a forum to confuse people who have a problem I repeat is a software problem Mavericks with equipment supporting the option of Power Nap

i did a complete AHT test and it does not see any problems with my hardware, I ran it twice once the quick test and the second time the in depth test both times the hardware was fine.

It is indeed a software issue with Mavericks.  Restoring to an earlier operating system will fix this problem, but should not have to be our solution.  The lastest Apple Care senior agent that I have been using has openly admitted that this is an Apple software issue.

I encourage you all to call Apple care and send them as much data as possible about your indiviudal machines as possible so that the Apple engineers can quickly diagnosis and fix this issue.  Great news to those of you that have indiviually solved your own issues.  Hold fast, those of you that have not.  The more info Apple receives from us, the quicker our problems will be resolved.

    Good luck to all!

Do not completely discard the possibility that this problem may have multiple root causes, both hardware and software. Some people reported the issue when USB drives are attached, some on upgraded OS, and others on newest retina models.

Older machine migrated to mavericks could be concerned by some kind of software issue, i.e. unexpected hardware conditions. Some others, concerned by unexpected hardware interactions. Newest model could experience hardware defects. In any case, Apple should hear about every problem in order to give an appropriate solution.

My original rMBP exhibited also exhibited dubious hardware glitches along with sleep wake failures and the replacement machine works as expected.

Same issue here. No external HDD connected, but I do have an external USB mouse connected. The issue happens irrespective of whether the power cord is plugged in or not.

    Edit:

Another common factor - Google Chrome is always running when this happens. I'll consciously try to use Safari and see if this happens.

Google Chrome used to consistently BSOD my Windows machine some time back (and I wasn't the only one).

I had a look at a random set of the crash reports posted on this forum and they all listed Google Chrome as a running process.

Same issue here. No external HDD connected, but I do have only the power cord connected. Has not happened for the past week or so.....Keeping finger crossed.
