Nov 8, 2013 2:31 PM in response to KumoLumoby tlovejr,Returned my 2013 MBA to an Apple Store earlier this week. Washing my hands of the entire thing. I've got a last-gen MBP coming factory direct as we speak. I'm willing to bet it won't have any problems. Haswell arch was a nice idea, but...

Nov 8, 2013 2:37 PM in response to tlovejrby jb510,Well, yesterdays minor update (gmail) didn't fix the sleep/wake crash.
However, I find that last two comments surprising. This is such a minor issue for me and so easily avoidable (eject USB hard drives before sleep).
When my laptop has crashed during sleep, I've never lost anything. No drive corurption, no lost data, everything comes back "just like it was" when it went to sleep. It just had to actually reboot to get there instead of just wake.
Has anyone called AppleCare on this?

Nov 9, 2013 11:12 AM in response to KumoLumoby tthiel1,I'm having the same issue.
I'm sure Apple knows about it since many people send them the diagnsotic report when it happens. There will be a fix.

Nov 9, 2013 4:04 PM in response to tthiel1by J_Shiff,I am betting Apple does know about it. However, I spoke with their "customer service manager" who swore he had not heard of the issue. They offered a replacement machine. I am going to just return it.
I encourage others to call so they cannot use the "We have never heard about it" excuse.

Nov 10, 2013 2:29 PM in response to KumoLumoby ahmedshedeed,I have bought the new Retina MacBook Pro 15" and I am having the same problem BUT I only get it when I put my laptop to sleep (closing the led) and then put in the charger. Whenever I open my led again I find it has restarted and shows me a message saying that there was an error.
Anyone getting this problem while their laptop is NOT charging?
Note: Power Nap is disabled on battery and power adapter BUT I left the "Wake for Wi-Fi network access" ON while using power adapter.

Nov 10, 2013 8:47 PM in response to ahmedshedeedby ericsoco, this problem is also happening on my machine.
i've seen it happen both with the lid closed and the lid open, both times with an external drive connected (via USB, via a hub).
don't believe i've seen it happen without an external drive connected.
i'm on OSX 10.9 on a 13" retina macbook pro (early 2013 model).
WD Elements external HD connected via an Anker 4-port USB 3.0 hub.
-
Nov 10, 2013 8:56 PM in response to KumoLumoby mitchbro,It's clear that it happens only when an external drive is connected. I'm not sure it matters whether the power is connected or not.
I've seen a couple of Western Digital drives mentioned. Is that a common theme? Mine's a USB 2.0 drive. I tried a different USB 2.0 drive, as well as a Western Digital USB 3.0 drive, and they don't crash it.
Has anyone tried formatting their drive? I'd try that, but don't have anywhere to transfer the data at the moment.

Nov 10, 2013 9:31 PM in response to mitchbroby HFY12,Its not just hard drives. It does it with my USB hub as well. In my hub was only a mouse and it still did it.
I'm trying this next theory though that it only is affected on usb devices that have require another power source. Both my hub and my external harddrive require those.
I wish apple would hurry up and send a bug fix =(

Nov 11, 2013 12:25 AM in response to KumoLumoby SergeNZ,I have observed this problem on both a late 2013 iMac and a late 2013 MacBook Air (kernel panics when waking from sleep, sometimes spontaneously). Disabling computer sleep isolates the problem, but I recognise this is not ideal on portables. This only arose with Mavericks. I think this is a software issue that Apple needs to address.

Nov 11, 2013 5:45 AM in response to SergeNZby Joefiore,Yes, this is happening on my brand new iMac, it's not just MacBooks. Was working fine before Mavericks (for the week I owned it before upgrading). Disabling computer sleep is the only thing that seems to work. In uninstalled almost all software and unplugged all peripherals (which I purchased through Apple and am being told may be the cause of my issues). Very frustrating issue on a very expensive machine.

Nov 11, 2013 9:11 AM in response to KumoLumoby IronRow,I also have this problem, but only if I play the game: "The Movies" I have other games like Civilization 5, but only with the Movies there is a crash. The pictures stands at the same point for hours.
I have no USB devices on it, but it comes with and without. Also with and without louding.
I have a MBP (2013).
Then I have to restart the game, when the button is coming up: You have a problem with: Sleep wake Failure.
-
Nov 11, 2013 11:03 AM in response to KumoLumoby Incredulocious,Yup, same problem here: "sleep wake failures". I've got a late-2013 MacBook Pro Retina 15" with Mavericks. I also have a new Western Digital "My Book" external hard drive hooked up (through a USB 3.0 hub). I see multiple "sleep wake failure" messages over the course of a day and sometimes I'm around to hear it reboot from another room. I don't even know what is causing the wake requests as I've turned off the power nap feature for both battery and plug-in power configurations and I don't know of a reason it should wake from a network request.
The "sleep wake failure" reports seem to be frequently spaced about 90 minutes apart, but not exactly so. Sometimes it goes for five hours or more without a failure. And while one day there were 13 of them, another day there was just one.
I'll try disconnecting my USB peripherials before sleeping the machine now to see if one of these is the source of the trouble. I find it suspicious that I have NOT had these failures all along (since purchase of the MacBook Pro) and both the USB 3.0 hub and the WD external drive are recent additions.

Nov 11, 2013 2:03 PM in response to Incredulociousby n808n808,Same problem as everyone else in this thread (which lead me to search for it) after upgrading to Mavericks.
I have the problem on my rMBP and on my dad's Macbook Air.
Neither system has any USB devices connected.
Additionally, I have trouble getting it powered on after such a crash. I have to connect it to power and/or perform the 4 finger SMC reset.
Actually, I am not entirely sure my problems are crashes or unintended shutdowns, but it appears that instead of hibernating (Safe Sleep) the systems shut down. Where can I find the crash logs, if any?
I worked around the problems by disabling standby and autopoweroff with pmset (sudo pmset -a standby 0 -a autopoweroff 0), as it's the standby timeout which triggers the hibernation/crash/shutdown. I would however have preferred a proper hibernation, so it does not run down the battery to nil if I forget to shutdown before a lengthy away.
If I 'sudo pmset -a standbydelay 60 -a standby 1' to repro the problem - the system does indeed shutdown completely to the difficult to re-power state after 60 seconds inactivity.

Nov 12, 2013 7:22 PM in response to KumoLumoby boazi,Same issues here - retina MBP 15" late 2013 running Mavericks, it seems to randomly restarts while the machine is sleeping so far only when connected to USB external Seagate HDDs, I know the drive is just fine because it works with no issues on my Mac Mini running Mt Lion... I had my machine replaced at the Apple store, been on the phone with tech support and senior tech support several times, no one has no clue whats going on, I reinstalled the OS, passed the hardware test, and now I'm waiting for Apple to get back with me after I provided them the capture data from my machine including the Sleep Wake Failure report. Its very frustrating because I have several of these hard drives that I want to keep connected to my machine and wouldn't like to keep the machine on all the time. This machine is screeming fast compared to my MBP mid 2010 but considering that I spent almonst $3K on it you would think that at least the software will be free of major bugs, I guess I should consider myself lucky for not loosing all my data like some other users reported Hoping for Apple update to resolve the issue soon!!
