Pages 13 files show as folders in Dropbox & Google Drive?

Since updating to Mavericks and the new iWork suite, Pages 13 documents are shown as files in OSX but when syncing them with dropbox or google drive they appear as folders with all the package contents inside not the actual file for viewing/editing, this is shown when using they're iOS apps and web site

Can anyone help?

One suggestion I had was to go to Preferences > then uncheck 'save package contents' but in the new iWork suite this option

Pages '13-OTHER, OS X Mavericks (10.9)

Looks like Kyle95's message was truncated, but I can confirm that this is a real, and different issue with Pages 5.0.

If you save a Pages 5.0 file to dropbox on your Mac and then try to "open in Pages" on your iOS device, the file document WILL NOT open in Pages for iOS.

I've done this a thousand times with Pages 4.3 and earlier, but right now it is clear that Dropbox, Google Drive, and also SkyDrive on iOS cannot read the new file structure of Pages 5.0. This means that if you are trying to do what many of us want to do: keep working in Pages 4.3 while using the new pages on our already-upgraded-to-iOS7 devices, then we have hit another HUGE SNAG. If you have a file in Pages 4.3 – and tiy want to KEEP your Mac's copy in 4.3 – then you are now totally blocked out from accessing it directly on your iOS device.

I can also confirm this is an issue.

Previously, I kept everything in Dropbox - no matter what the program. Then I simply has to download the file on my phone and "Open In" whatever program I had on my iPhone to open/edit that type of file.

Well, I can still do all that, except for the "open/edit" part for Pages/Keynote/Numbers document. As kyle95 has said,

...Pages 13 documents are shown as files in OSX but when syncing them with dropbox ... they appear as folders with all the package contents inside not the actual file for viewing/editing...

with a slight correction, that in OS X, in fact, they are actually folders too. Right click and you'll see "Show Package contents", just like Applications. But OS X recognises it as a semi-file type arrangment.

So who has to fix this? Is it Dropbox? Or Apple? I don't know who to reach out to.

In the meantime, I guess the only solution is to store all your Page/Keynote/Numbers documents in iCloud (hopefully you've/I've got enough space!) instead of other cloud services. Anyone else got another suggestion?

No comfort to you but this seems to be working fine for me.

If I create a new document on my Mac (choose one of the templates) in Pages 5 and save it to Dropbox. On my iPad, when I tap the file in Dropbox, it displays properly and when I select Open In ... from the pull down menu and choose Pages, it opens just fine.

I have Dropbox v2.4.2 on my computer and 2.3.2 on my iPad.

I can clarify:

1) NEW files created on the Mac in Pages 5.0 CAN be read in Dropbox on iOS and WILL open in Pages on the iPad.

2) OLDER FILES created on the Mac in Pages 4.3 (or earlier) that have then been opened and saved in Pages 5.0 on the Mac will NOT be readable in Dropbox on iOS and will NOT open in Pages on the iPad.

(I'm using the newest verison of Dropbox for iOS and the newest version of Pages for iOS, running iOS 7.0.3).

I also confirm this problem and add two things.

1. Once a Pages document is synced with Dropbox, the document(folder) in Dropbox doesn't update any more. When I edit the document once synced and try syncing it again, no change occurs in Dropbox..

2. Documents newly made in Pages 5 can be read in iOS, though it cannot be updated. However, documents based on the template which was made before Pages 5 cannot be read in iPad or iPhone: neither in Dropbox nor in Pages.

I don't think this is quite right. If you are wroking on your Mac in Pages 5.0 and the document is contained in a dropbox folder, then updates ARE synced to dropbox, it's just that dropbox does not change the time or show that it was updated. However, if you update a Pages 5.0 doc and then go to the dropbox website and download the doc to your Mac, you WILL find the document was updated.

This, of cousre, does not solve the major problem here, which is that Pages 5.0 documents are unaccessible on the iPad through Dropbox or other cloud solutions. The only way to have access to Pages 5.0 documents on the iPad is to send them there direclty, or place them in iCloud. Given that I have THOUSANDS of Pages documents on my Mac that at any point I *might* want to access on the iPad, this is a SERIOUS problem – far more serious than the other issues with Pages 5.0, which can be worked around.

Peter, I'm not entirely sure this is Apple's problem.

If you go to Dropbox's twitter page, for example, there are lots of requests about this, and they mention they are trying to find a fix. I imagine Dropbox will have a new fix soon. I haven't bothered researching Google Drive, as I don't use it, but I'm sure they'd be in the same boat.

In the end, a company (in this case, Apple) can use whatever file structure they want. It's up to the cloud storage companies (in this case, Dropbox and Google) to sync all files properly.

Not quite.

Apple's structure is a fake single file and it has written its software to recognise and parse it correctly.

Since it does not discuss its intentions or actions with anyone else, how can anyone else anticipate what they are doing/going to do and make the necessary allowances.

Imagine someone handed you a pile of papers which had a subtle stamp somewhere on them that says they are supposed to go together, but doesn't tell you, it isn't your fault if they are treated individually.
