Question

External drive containing FCPX Events doesn't show up in FCPX

Something strange has happened here because everything was working perfect until I made a backup of my eSata media drive using SuperDuper. After backup, although the drives (both eSata via Thunderbolt converter) do show up in the system and have no problems detected with Disk Utility, they don't appear in FCPX...

I have tried trashing FCPX and reinstalling, but still no success...

Any help, please! This is really annoying because it simply doesn't allow me to continue working...

Possibly (somehow) the drives were re-formstted? They need to be Mac OS Extended.

I don't think they were (somehow 😉) reformatted. They are both Mac OS Extended and they are seen in the desktop as usual. FCPX though, don't see them...

SuperDuper just made a backup of the drive, maybe it is not related to it...

Okey, I restarted my Macbook Pro for the 3rd time and now everything works... This is starting to feel a little bit Windowsish...

Apple, what's the problem? This didn't happen with previous Final Cuts. I appreciate improvements in the new FCPX. But please do something stable and reliable, please!!!

If you clone a drive FCP will not display duplicates because projects and events will have duplicate IDs. If you dupliucate a project or event inside FCP, even if it has the same name, it will have unique application identifiers.

Thank you, Tom Wolsky, I know that. But that wasn't the problem since I had disconnected the cloned disk...

The next most likely is a folder with a name that makes the application believe it's a camera drive.

Always reformat drives with Disk Utility. Don't accept manufacturer's formatting.

It is good to know about the problem with Mavericks, thank you!!!

However, that wasn't my case, since I had formatted the disks with Disk Utility and after installing Mavericks...

As for the folder, name, I don't think so either. The only folder inside the drive is "Final Cut Events", created by FCPX.
