After updating the OS the scanner cannot be found by any application. The Canon driver is also up to date!

    Hello there bahooga83,

It sounds like after updating to 10.9 you are no longer able to use your printer from any application. I would try these troubleshooting steps from the article named:

Troubleshooting printer issues in OS X

    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3147

Follow these steps until the issue is addressed:

    1. Make sure that the printer is powered on, has ink / toner, and that there are no alerts on the printer’s control panel. Note: If you cannot clear an alert on the printer's control panel, stop here and check the printer's documentation or contact the manufacturer for support.
    2. Ensure the printer is properly connected to a USB port on the Mac or AirPort base station / Time Capsule. If the printer is a network-capable printer, make sure that it is properly connected to your home network.
    3. Use Software Update to find and install the latest available updates. If an update is installed, see if the issue persists.
    4. Open the Print & Scan pane or Print & Fax (Snow Leopard) pane in System Preferences.
    5. Delete the affected printer, then add the printer again.

If the issue persists, try these additional steps:

    1. Reset the printing system, then add the printer again.
    2. If the issue still persists, reset the printing system again.  Download and install your printer's drivers. Then, add the printer again.
    3. Contact the printer vendor or visit their website for further assistance.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

    Regards,

    Sterling

Download the Mavericks drivers for that scanner from this Canon webpage and install: Canon U.S.A. : Support & Drivers : CanoScan 8800F

Download and give VueScan a try.  The 8800F is supported.

After upgrading to Mavericks, you must also upgrade three more things to support the Canoscan 8800F:

    - Upgrade the driver to version 13.9.2a.

    - Upgrade the software MP Navigator EX1.0 to version 1.0.8

    - Upgrade the software MP Navigator EX1.0 Opener

    You'll find those downloads here:
    http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/scanners/canoscan_series/canoscan _8800f#DriversAndSoftware

When downloading the driver, be sure to specify your operating system as OS X v10.9 Mavericks.

There's good news and bad news here:  With these  upgrades, Canon's MP Navigator software for using the scanner works again, as does third-party software that uses a scanner (GraphicConverter, Adobe Acrobat, ...).  However Apple's "Image Capture" app won't work - and you need that to configure the buttons on the scanner, so these buttons on the scanner cover don't work in Mavericks.

What's still needed to fix those is an update to something called the ICA Driver. (ICA stands for Image Capture Architecture).  Canon tech support knows about this, and will hopefully post a new ICA driver soon. Watch the same link above for that update.

I had the same problem-  canoscan 8800 wont work with mavericks.  I found the following you tube link that fixed my problem.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OWnYeAniGUo

Image capture will not see the scanner, but the canon MP navigator ap will pick up the scanner and it works just fine.

Buttons on the scanner will not work though..

    hope this helps.

HI. Just read your help re CanoScan 8800 with interest. I also have just updated to Mavericks and have the same issue with my CanoScan 9900f. I've been through a discussion re trying to use VueScan which has ended in a conclusion it wont support scanner in Mavericks. Do you think 9900f is redundant in Mavericks or do you think there is another route to run it please similar to above? Thanks Ian

Vuescan will support the Canon scanner in Mavericks.  You'll need to download the 32 bit version of the app for it to work.  Look down this page about 3/4 the way for a table of downloads and pick the 32 bit version of 9.5: http://www.hamrick.com/

Thanks for your reply. VueScan will support the Canon scanner in Mavericks..this will be great news & make my week. Are you totally sure, as VikingOSX in the thread below seems very certain that it now can't beyond OSX Tiger! Any tips & specifics on loading what and where? I've downloaded VueScan V 8.2.7 OX 2015 & have both CanoScan Toolbox 4.1 & 5.0. I couldn't previously install ScanGear from Mavericks see detailed last part of thread below:

1 of 3 users not working in Mavericks update. AppleWorks 6 not opening! Canoscan 9900F Software

Look forward to your reply & tips soon,

    thanks Ian

Download and try the 32 bit version in its demo mode to see if it will work or not.  I have the 8600F scanner and it will work with the 32 bit version but not the 64 bit version.

The latest driver support for the CanoScan 9900F is not supported past OS X 10.6.8 because it uses a PowerPC plug-in. See the VueScan CanoScan 9900F note for this particular scanner. The more recent CanoScan 9900F Mk II scanner is supported with current (Feb 2015) drivers that allow its use on Lion through and including Yosemite.

Just repeated the gist of what I had replied in your earlier post.

    Hi again,

Seems to be stirring a conflict of opinion in this debate! Sorry folks

Anyhow, I have now tried your advice, Old Toad' & download a 32 bit version of VueScan 9.5.26 (top in list) fine, but not sorted as yet...

Can you help me with the exact detail of this please?

This is a USB 2.0 or firewire connect device - first which do you recommend?

I have both in at the moment & the system report can see, 9900F under Firewire, but under USB (2.0) sees it, but says:  Current Required (mA): Unknown (Device has not been configured)

So I guess the later is down to a driver connect issue missing - is it a version of ScanGear I need?

Back in VueScan > Input > Files what should be showing (ScanGear V8.2.7 OX?)

Can you drop me back a step by step so I can give it another whirl please?

    Thanks Ian
