Q: Mavericks Notes App not syncing with iCloud

The notes.app stopped syncing with iCloud after installation of Mavericks for users with networked home folders.  Was previously working properly with Mountain Lion.

Notes syncing is enabled in icloud preferences.

Signing out of icloud and signing back in does not fix the problem.

Unselecting the notes checkbox and re-selecting has erratic effects->a)  sometimes crashing the notes.app unrecoverably (app won't reopen after force quite).  b) sometimes crashing the icloud system preferences altogether.

All other icloud apps work fine: contacts, calendar, reminders, etc.   (all except icloud documents which is greyed out for users with networked home folders see: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23544576?ac_cid=tw123456#23544576 )

Any fixes or work-arounds?  We use our notes app extensively and this is really debilitating.

iMac (27-inch, Late 2012), OS X Mavericks (10.9), OS X Server: OS X 10.8.5

    Hasn't worked here since 10.9.0.

Works with local accounts but not networked homes.

Did submit a bug report during pre-release testing.

    Eric:

Did you ever solve this issue? I am in the same boat ( I now have .mac, .me & .icloud addresses). I like using Notes to run my day. But I am sunk since upgrading to Mavs.

I have network accounts and Notes still not synching on 10.9.4 A pathetic effort from Apple. They should also fix documents and data while they are about it.

So just want to know if this is the same problem everyone else is having.  I had the problem first with mac mail after upgrading to Mavericks where it kept asking repeatedly for my password.  So I deleted my account and added it back again.  Then I read elsewhere in this forum there was a problem with having a printer hard wired into the mac.  And my printer has wifi, so I unplugged it from the mac.  Voila, mail works! (so far at least lol).  Anyways I go back into Internet Accounts in the Settings and try and add 'notes' and it will not let me.  It keeps giving me an error message "There was a problem setting up the account.  An unknown error occurred."

I've rebooted the computer a couple of times to no avail.  Is this the same problem others are having with no fix in sight?  If I follow the fix Spryt posted I am afraid of losing all my notes on my mail cause I have a lot.  Any ideas?

I may have found the answer.  The Notes app only syncs Notes in your iCloud account, not all notes on your iPhone.  Initially it is impossible to create notes for your iCloud account from the iPhone.  However, if you log into your iCloud account on iCloud.com, then create a new note, then it will appear (along with the account) as an option on your iPhone.  You can then create new iCloud notes on your iPhone, and set this as your default Notes account if you want.

An additional observation from my own experience of this problem (both with Mavericks and prior) is that the de-selecting and logging out of iCloud etc, simply doesn't work straight away (I did see iCloud in Notes, but it was empty with no activity). Even a system restart made no difference.

I had given up on a fix the first time I came across this (last year I think), and again just the other evening when I disabled iCloud to remove double iCloud entries in Notes, when low and behold, I then opened up Notes to see iCloud notes amazingly re-appear again (without double entry).

It could have been a cloud server problem, or a home network issue, I cannot confirm. But consider allowing some time. On two occasions now, it rectified after a day or two. Give it a try if all else fails.

However, if you upgrade your iCloud Notes account on an iOS 9 device:

    • Your notes on iOS 9 devices and on iCloud.com aren’t kept up to date with notes on any of your devices with iOS 8.4.1 or earlier, OS X v10.10.5 or earlier, or Windows.
    • Your notes are no longer stored in your @icloud email account.
