Q: Target Display Mode on late 2013 27" iMac to mid 2010 17" MacBook Pro

having same issue as i just purchased iMac.
Call center said i need to buy an adapter but i looked it up and:

Thunderbolt - MiniDisplay Adapter don't go with MacBook Pro Mid2010.
Have you found another solution?

I have a macbook pro (2010) that I want to extend to my new 2013 iMac and use the iMac as a secondary monitor.
I bought the thunderbold cable when I purchased the iMac assuming I could use it as descibed at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3924
Not so! TDM doesn't even seem to apply to the 2013 iMac Command-F2 has no apparent affect.
Anyone encounter this same issue? Solutions?
