My TC works flwlessly until today when I get an error stating that it cannot back up as the disk is in use. Never seen that oine before. Has anyone else? Does anyopne know a fix?
Has Mavericks got anything to do with it?
What is the exact message that you are seeing? Include any error numbers if they are present.
No error numbers. Right now its 'preparing backup' for the last hour!
And the disk no longer shows up in Finder.

What other troubleshooting steps have you performed?
Pulled the power and then ended up doing a full hard reset. Still not nothing.Right now its still preparing back up and I was able to enter Time Machine, so I am going to let it run and see what happens.
I will post back if I get the error again.

If the Mac is connected to the Time Capsule using wireless, the "Preparing" message is going to take a long time, since Time Machine has to perform a "deep traversal" to carefully read the entire disk for any errors.
The operation may take anywhere from 10-15 minutes to a few hours depending on the amount of data on the Time Capsule disk.
