"Find [text on page] ..." causes Safari 6.1 to crash.

On certain websites, using the "Find..." menu option will crash the page. It's only started in the past couple days, and I've noticed it the most with Amazon.com.

Further symptoms:

1. It is not happening consistently (for example, it happened on this page, and next time it was OK).

2. The search bar remains partially hidden under the frame of the window (bookmarks bar in my case).

3. You can still type into the search box. It may give a correct number of items found, and if you try to go through them with the arrow keys, the highlighted words pop up in the window at random locations (not where the text is).

4. At the same time, the window crashes, scroll does not work, reload does not work. Back does work, but the previous page is also crashed.

5. Other Safari windows are unaffected.

I see this on two different macs, a 2009 MBP and a 2011 iMac, both running 10.7.5 and Safari 6.1. The phenomenon started recently.

In case other users are still experieincing this issue, try the following.

Symptom:

-> Console logs error related to Safari content focus.

-> CMD+F causes web pages to turn essentially into "blurry images" which are no longer selectable and any query into the Find box yeilds text that is misplaced.

-> Webpage is unusable with CMD+F

Cause:

-> Typically related to corrupted installation of Safari

-> Installation of corrupted (or post install, corruption) Extensions

Ex. YouTube5, AdBlock, Evernote, myWOT, LastPass among others can cause this.

Resolution:

-> Disable extensions "one by one", restart Safari and then try CMD+F.

-> Once you have found the extension which causes this issue, remove it. Download and install a fresh copy of the extension if required.

Alternatively:

-> Reset Safari completely (under Safari in menubar)

OR

-> Try CCleaner and select Safari options. Run cleaning to remove cache/history etc.

For corrupted install of Safari

-> Try repairing permissions first.

OR

-> Reinstall OS X Lion

OR

-> With root permissions, copy and replace Safari installation from another Mac running the same version.
