Giving away old laptop
I want to donate my old MacBook Pro to our church. I don't want to wipe the hard drive, just erase personal information and change the user. What is the best way to do this?
MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

A quick way to do it would be to create a new user with admin rights, login with that then delete your old username. It should ask if you want to keep the files from that account or erase them. Hope that helps!
I see that as a poor decision on your part not to wipe the disk. It is extremely dificult to erase all of your data without wiping the whole disk.

While that sounds good there is a significant amount of user data that is outside of the Home directory that your method will remove.
Allan
Yep, agree with Allan.
