Nov 8, 2013 9:17 AM in response to Tony T1by sunnyjohn,Hmm - let's see. The title of this thread is
How to get label colors back on Maverick?
So exactly how is it being hijacked?
I have no intention of going back to Mountain Lion; and to buy Pathfinder for one feature is ludicrous. I think it is you who is hijacking this thread.

Then you're out of luck in regard to label colors anytime soon, sorry....

TonyT1, not necessarily true. My Apple Help story short: I switched over to Final Cut Pro X when it first came out and then plunged in and started doing a major project with it. About 3/4's of the way through the project FCPX crashed with me thinking about 3 months of work was down the drain. I went on these forums (and others, such as Creative Cow) and begged for help from other users. Low and behold, out of the blue, I get an email from a tech person at Apple with him simply stating: "Would you like help with your problem?" Since I live way out in the middle of the Pacific, we set up a time that had him in his office at Apple way after closing time (about 7 PM for him) so we could Skype. He walked me through the issue and solved the problem.
My point is, and I am one of the many who depend on labels and want them back, Apple does look at these threads. This thread alone has over 1,100 views (which alone says there is an issue here), I firmly believe that some of those may be Apple players. That doesn't mean they will do anything, but I am sure they look.

Nov 9, 2013 2:06 AM in response to bikinijackby sunnyjohn,Thanks for that, bikinijack. It's good to get a positive post. Like you, I'm pretty certain that either a develper will come up with a solution or Apple themselves will. To requote my quote in English, we'll see!

Removing 'Bounce' in Mail recieved over 100 times that amount. Probably more. Many more. It has never been reinstalled, no matter how much a tiny percentage of users screamed. This feature has recieved an even smaller percentage. I would doubt you will ever see them reimplemented. Therefore Tony T1's suggestion of a Third Party Hack like Pathfinder or else reinstall the backup you made before you upgraded to Mavericks. If Apple ever come her, I would think it would be to look for bugs, not to see a few users bemoaning the loss of a feature thy decided to make redundant. That is IF they ever come here.
Cheers

One has: Pathfinder.

Nov 11, 2013 6:47 AM in response to Tracy Eby Jason Fragomeni,I have always relied on the large areas of color for my file organization. It's a great visual tool. My work, also, has slowed. Maybe I need a new approach if Apple decides not to address this. I wish this was an option that could be changed.

Nov 11, 2013 7:51 AM in response to herbert17by grdh20,Colored labels is not the same feature as Tags. Labels are visual clues more than Tags which are sorting category items. I too used color lables to have a folder stand out at a glance in Finder details view. Tags is not intended for that purpose. Maybe Apple didn'ty understand the way some of us used colored folders. Yes, pathfinder and Forklift (for now) still have the old labels still showing as carried over from ML, but what if we wnat to use Finder? It seems to me that if 3rd party apps like these can envoke this which is till carried over in tact from ML even though oin Finder they show tags, that a 3rd party may be able to produce an app that simply turnes this back on within Finder itself. I agree with some that Apple is not likley to go back unfortunatley.
(by the way, why does spellcheck in Firefox not work inside this forum's reply boxes?)

Nov 22, 2013 12:52 PM in response to herbert17by DSVD,Totally understandable , that frustration ... if your workflow has been build on the color codes throughout the years ... its less clear where you are in your folderstructure ... I have the same lost feeling watching my folders ...
another finder app that still handles this perfect ... its called " Forklift "
https://itunes.apple.com/be/app/forklift-file-manager-ftp/id412448059?mt=12
Forklift has also another really handy feature ... it can merge folders :-)
Ill probably buy that app ... it brings me back to where it left me after ML ... but dont forget that Maverick also brought good things ...
2 other nice apps are
--> Jumpcut (remembers 40 or more clipboards , Free App )
and another one I really use all the time on my MacbookPro is
--> Totalspaces2 , create up to 20 or more screens costs some money but its all well spend ... once you get used to it ... you cant work without it ... I even use it on my Macpro now ...
Peace ;-)

Nov 26, 2013 2:34 PM in response to herbert17by deeewayne, ugh, again – Apple is "fixing" what's NOT broken. (i also hate that they removed "save as" from TextEdit.)
this tiny dot with "tags" doesn't help me differentiate my files in a folder. there's also crazy lag everytime i tag something and a problematic bug where the spacebar preview stops working for JPEGs i select. the preview gets stuck on one image and won't update when you click up or down to another JPEG.

Nov 28, 2013 9:03 AM in response to petermac87by BethGuardino,There are still people like me in school learning programming with friends who are learning or know programming. I'm sure someone out there can come up with an app to install to put back the Labels feature if Apple won't do it for us.
I did not sort by color or by the label feature as people are using the tiny dots in the new Maverick.
I used the Labels color the file name feature so I could easily find important and most used files by seeing them stand out on the long list of files. I used it as one would use a highlighter to mark the file.
I hope Apple will put this feature back. Because it was removed, I am not updating any of my other computers to Maverick. I do not want to lose this feature. I rely on it too much.
A tiny dot is hard to see. I don't like having my dots sorted and put into categories. It is annoying.
I'm sure there are some people who use the dots for this. So why can't we have both features? A tiny dot to sort files as if you worked in a doctor's office and File colors for highlighting important file names.
Seems a no-brainer to me.

Dec 3, 2013 5:44 PM in response to yrrab446by Barby Gale,Thank you for your comments re labels vs tags. I was so shocked when I looked at my new Mavericks screen with the eentsy beentsy dot that replaced the beautiful colored labels that I almost cried. I am very spacially oriented, and have always kept my current working files on my desktop in groups organized in various spots on the page. I could very easily just go to what I needed. I knew what files were coded blue, red, etc. and could locate them immediately. Now I am completely adrift and floundering. Everything looks the same--kind of vanilla-coated pablum. Shame on Mac. I am lost. I do not use any hand-held devices and do not see why the design of a computer's operating system should be trumped by a 2x4 inch thing. HELP!!!
