Java 6 and Safari 7?

Hi, I just installed Mavericks with Safari 7 and I am attempting to get a working java installation that will allow me to use java in both Chrome and Safari. Whils using Snow Leopard I had made the mistake of installing Oracle's Java 7 which of course broke Java in Chrome and reverted back to Apple's java install. So now I have Mavericks and the first thing I notices is that Java plugins do not work in Safari 7 so I installed Java 1.6 from here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572 as I have seen broadly recommended before realizing that this update requires the installation of Oracle Java 7 which as I already know will not work in Chrome.

So, in summary, is there a solution to installing Java with browser plugins that will work with both Safari 7 as well as Chrome?

OS X Mavericks (10.9)
