Similar problem here ... my laptop crashed and I did not have a backup of my wife's nano downloads.

All songs are on her ipod; additionally, she has downloaded new songs onto the new PC.

How can I merge the ipod songs and the new songs on that were download from itunes music store?

the ipod does not recognize that the new songs are on the PC. it never updates to ipod?

Aren't the Minis discontinued? the mini discontinued on September 2005?

I forget exactly when they were discontinued, but Apple does not make minis anymore. The iPod nano replaced it.

I believe that the mini was discontinued 10 or more months ago, but I reall don't know.

Yes, they are discontinued but you can still buy them refurbished in the Apple Online store.

Also, if you send your mini in for service, they will send you back a refurbished one.
