New download on imac OSX 10.9 and now my epson printer has stopped working

Since the latest download my old and trusty Epson Stylus D88 has ceased to work. Please advise.

I must confess that I do not want to buy a new printer AND I am no longer confident that a new printer would work with Apple anyway.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
