You have to RESET the printing system as below. But BEWARE...THIS TRICK ONLY WORKS IF you "RIGHT" click the (big) box above the "+" and "-" signs...it took me 2 hours to figure out this ESSENTIAL bit of knowledge that was missing from the directions below (lifted right off of Apple's support site)!

    Good Luck!

Mac OS X includes a Reset Printing System troubleshooting function that you might want to use after you try all other printing troubleshooting steps for Mac OS X 10.6 or later, or Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier.

What does Reset Printing System do?

    • Deletes all queues and jobs.
    • Resets all printer settings to their default by deleting configuration files.
    • Performs a permissions check on the /tmp directory.

Any printers, scanners, or fax modems that previously appeared in System Preferences will need to be added again after resetting the printing system.

Resetting the printing system in OS X Lion

To use the Reset Printing System function in Lion, follow these steps:

    1. Choose System Preferences from the Apple menu.
    2. Choose Print & Scan from the View menu.
    3. Hold down the Option key while clicking the "-" (Remove printer) button. If no printers are currently added, hold down the Control key while clicking in the box that appears above the "+" (Add printer) button, then choose Reset printing system… from the contextual menu.

...Not much new to add; after the Maverick upgrade my wi-fi connection to my HP Envy 110 printer sort of evaporated.  I've tried every approach I could come up with (or discussion groups displayed...) and nothing works.  After two years of "no sweat" printer and attached scanner operation this is profoundly disappointing.

Took me 2 days after earlier upgrade for my MacBook Pro to get my Canon LBP3000 to work; finally found a patch that some heroic person created.  Just upgraded to Mavericks and have similar issues to those specified here: appears to want to print but is endlessly idle and cannot resume once it's loaded the item to be printed.  Anyone with a new patch?

I had the same problem after updating to Mavericks - printer went awol and been without it for days now. Totally fed up, and cursing Apple didn't seem to help. Got the answer for my Canon MG5550 by going to the Canon website support and downloading the latest software update, including printer drivers, for Mavericks. Re-installed the printer as per Canon on-screen instructions and to my relief it's back printing like it should. Hope this helps you - good luck.

Thank you, iracamino!  I had to go to the Canon UK site to find the Mavericks-compatible driver for my printer but I did find it; deleted the printer and then reinstalled.  Seems to be ok!

Since updating to os x mavericks 10.9.2 my macbook pro will no longer detect my hp photosmart c7250 all-in-one printer.  I have tried everything i can think of to rectify this problem.  From the comments on this board it seems there are many others with similar issues.  Does anyone know when apple will be adding a fix for this problem?

    Thanks-

See your post. I posted links to the drivers and instructions.

It is up to HP to update their drivers, not Apple.
