Free iChat?

Free iChat?

I keep reading articles that seem to imply that iChat AV offers free video chat. I've gotten a couple of friends to get macs and it always seemed to require a .mac account. Is iChat AV really free, or must you have the $100 per year service of .mac to use iChat AV?

yeah ichat is completely free. unlike many of the other apps that have some parts only available to .mac subscribers (iWeb and iPhoto come to mind) all the iChat features such as video/audio chats are fully accessible to anyone with an AIM account also. no need to use a .mac account name.

Hey, that's PERFECT!!!

Now, I can show people how to get FREE iChat! Either AIM or just sign up for a .mac account and use the same name after the trial expires!

Hi lawrence,

Absolutely no need to have a .mac account to run iChat. One of the benefits of .mac and iChat is the encryption offered by .mac
