safari "help->plugins" shows white page

On OS X 10.8.5, safari 6.0.5, click "help" then "installed plugins" - and it shows a blank page.

I've installed the latest Java VM 7 update 45, and in the control panel it shows ok, but when I go to the Sun verify page, it says "missing plugin"...

so I know there is a problem.

any ideas?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.3), 2012 Model (1.8ghz i7)

From the Safari menu bar, select

Safari Preferences Security

and check the box marked Allow other plug-ins.
