Files exported from iTunes to iPod

If a file is stored in iTunes as Apple Lossless (ALAC) on a MAC or PC, when it is exported to an iPod does it have the same attributes. Inother words will the file on the iPod be the same size, or doese it get downsampled for the iPod.

The reason for the questin is that I want to re-rip all of my CD's to Lossless format. If the files sizes are going to be the same for the export to the iPod, I will obviously run out of room on that device real fast.

Hi,

The files will be larger but you can set ipod to down sample tracks to a lower bit rate when you sync.

That's what I thought. Basically what I am trying to accomplish is a highest quality at each source. My home system has unlimited storage so ALAC is preferred, but do to storage limitation on the iPod I would need to down-sample. As it is already, I have 3 different iPod classsics that were converted to 256gb and I'm still pushing it.
