After accepting an invitation to an event that was created using iCal on OS X, or using the iCloud calendar, or using the calendar app on an iOS device, i'm not always receiving the status of other invitees. The behaviour seems to be quite inconsistent, probably depending on the e-mail address that was used to invite me and/or the other invitees.
Are there known issues that should be considered when inviting people to a meeting / event?
It depends on the recipients email system. If you were using Exchange for example, then you would be able to see the status.
All the invitation's receipients (including myself) are using simple iCloud accounts / e-mail adresses.
If I'm inviting them, I usually see all their status updates (Accept/Maybe/Decline).
If I'm invited by them, I either see none, some, or all of their status updates, but I haven't been able to figure out the exact circumstances that influence this behaviour...
