multiple stops in route in maps

It's now Apr 2017 and you can do this on your phone but you cannot sit there at your desk, prepare a route with multiple stops and then pick up that map on your phone when you're going on the trip.

Of all the bits a software company could ignore, this one is perhaps the most baffling I've ever seen.

Unfortunately you can't. You can select a few "options" for recommended routes. I can only assume "way points" may be added in the future.
