mdworker: (warning) import bad path continuously. What does it mean?

Brand new rMBP 13" 2.4 128gb 4gb. Im experiencing the problem of the trackpad/keyboard freeze, and a suggested workaround is plugging in a USB stick. Not only does it flash nonstop which isnt normal, but it works slow and the console reads a constant stream of the mdworker warning import bad path message. Whats going on??

Hi. I Have a MBP 13" Early 2011 (2.7GHz, 8GB, 256GB Samsung430 SSD, Internal 1TB expansion, OSX 10.9) and because of my 1TB expansion (I removed my CD drive and bought one of those CD structures to add another HD) I was having an indexing problem like you guys. My console also was giving a repeated message of "mdworker (Warning) Import:bad path".

I found somewhere else that the problem has to do sometimes with ExFat Hard drives or storage devices that Spotlight want to index (I may imagine it's a Mavericks bug becuase Mountain Lion did not do that).

The solution comes in three options apparently:

1. You Unmount or remove that storage device from the possible periferials (in my case unmount via Disk Utility)

2. You seclude that storage device via Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy clicking on the + symbol and adding that whole Partition

3. Turning off spotlight via terminal command.

I am not the intelectual owner of this, but I found it here if it helps

... having the same issues using thumb drive by lexar.

It was formatted when it was new, when using Lion then Mountain Lion, and now with Mavericks

I get 4000 ALL MESSAGES in about 10 minutes from;

11/21/13 4:00:10.874 PM mdworker[3355]: (Warning) Import: Bad path: .

... can't re-format the USB drive as all it's data will be erased.

PRICELESS PHOTOS!

I did find a 'round about'....

PUT THE LEXAR IN...

QUICKLY COPY ALL THE DATA TO AN EMPTY FOLDER WAITING ON DESKTOP.

THEN PASTE DATA INTO ANOTHER AREA

THEN REMOVE IT.

Well... at least I have corrected my issue.

This one Lexar thumb-drive (ABOVE POST) was placed back in my iMac.

At which time, the mdworker warning import bad path log message started once again.

I created the empty new folder on the desk top.

Then clicked-copied-pasted the contents of the Lexar usb drive into the new untitled empty folder.

Waited patiently for the paste to complete.

Then I opened Disk Utility and 'partitioned' the Lexar to MAC OS EXTENTED JOURNALED format.

The Lexars all arrive in FAT 32 which does not play nice with Apple!

Then, when the empty lexar had been reformatted, I copied and pasted the folder into the now un-empty lexar.

All is right in my world again! 🙂

I hope this may help someone having issues...

md worker "import:bad path"

The problem started with a toshiba external hard drive.i had it partitioned in two halfs.one with mac os extended journaled (for time machine back up) and the other as exfat(for file transferring from mac to pc and vice versa).today i plugged it in in order to create a time machine back up (not the first one).the time machine back up was about 700mb.it started and stuck at 2,2 mb for an hour.nothing happened.i searched the web and found as a solution to restart on safe mode and then restart again my mbp (13" late 2013).nothing accomplished.still the problem exists.now I'm trying something else.i will reformat the two partitions as mac os extended journaled ,transfer the time machine back up from one partition to another and reformat the other partition as exfat again.

i know it would be better to format it as one partition only for time machine back up but how will i transfer files from pc to mac?with a second drive?

No.thats not an option.i need one external drive to carry, not two.

Ps;i forgot to mention that i don't have an antivirus installed or anything else that slows down time machine back ups

I am experiencing this issue with my 10.9.4 system, freshly installed a few weeks ago, but restored from a backup. It started some months ago, not sure when. My system is entirely HFS+ Journaled case-insensitive file systems, except for two Boot Camp partitions, which are both NTFS and read-only, and already excluded from indexing.

Would this have anything to do with a Time Capsule being somewhere in the setup? It's not currently mounted, but it's the usual HFS+ formatted sparsebundle on an HFS+ formatted 2GB Time Capsule device.

I don't really want to format from scratch and not restore my backup.

I was in the same situation as you (early 2011 macbook pro 13, internal ssd +2ndary HD). Specifically, the 2nd HD was partitioned into: an encrypted logical for backups and an exFat for media. Spotlight was taking forever and sucking up all my juice! This did not happen in Lion (I skipped Mountain Lion). Anyways, I've set up the 2nd HD to be in Setting --> Spotlight --> Privacy and that's resolved the indexing problem. Will try changing the 2nd partition to Mac journalized when I have time and see what happens... Cheers!

I just started getting this problem. My mac (which I only really use for Logic) has been running really slow for weeks and Logic keeps giving me System Overload messages and now I got in from work, turned it on and this message appears constantly.

I use Logic with files located on the HHD but also have 3 WD external drives connected (1 for time machine and 2 for media)

would it be recommended to follow the spotlight advice in my case?

I'm seeing a massive stream of them continuously:

10/03/15 3:14:25.146 pm mdworker[1437]: (Warning) Import: Bad path:

I think it's due to my external drive and something in the .fseventsd/ folder.

Restarting fixes it often maybe.
