Q: EverWeb??

Anyone ever hear of EverWeb. I got an email advertising it. At first I thought it was an email from EasyWeb saying they were going out of Beta.

EasyWeb and EverWeb are one and the same, so yes, it is the same e-mail informing you that EasyWeb/EverWeb has gone out of beta and is ready to be purchased.

They decided to change the name from EasyWeb to EverWeb, so it is the same thing.

I've been beta testing EverWeb from the outset and would recommend it to anyone wanting an iWeb replacement.

It has a lot of the features that iWeb users asked for but never got.

Download the trial and give it a whirl. If you have any questions there is a very active user forum.

I have a very basic question which I should know the answer to, but it's been a long time since I've had to concern myself with the size of my site. How do you gauge the size of a site in MB, GB. EverWeb's basic plan says you have 2GB of space and can build as many sites as long as they fit into the allowed 2GB plan. I understand more space can be purchased, but I doubt I'll want to do that.

So what's the best way to determine a site size. Publish to Folder/Get Info??

Publishing the site to a folder and then looking at the info will be fairly accurate.

Once you have an account, you will see the storage indicator in the Site Publishing Settings page. Here's a screenshot of mine with a test site uploaded...

The site I'm most concerned about shows an amazing 84 MB used.  So it seems I could easily Publish several sites and fit well within the 2 GB. .

This is probably a question for Rage, but you might know the answer. The EverWeb + Hosting Plan: Can I Publish non EverWeb sites to the same Plan, IE iWeb sites.

Publishing to the Rage server is from within the application although is a lot simpler and without the faults of the iWeb system.

Also, site changes can be previewed before upload without having to publish to an external folder.

Recreating iWeb built sites in EverWeb is really easy. Each site is created on a separate project file and these appear in the project manager window for quickly changing from one to the another when updating several sites.

Roddy, last question. I know your familiar with both Rage and Host Excellence. I'm currently with HE and find my site is up almost 100% of the time and email is pretty dependable also. How to you rate Rage on up time and as an email server. I need as close as 100% as possible.  I respect your opinion.

I haven't experienced any downtime with the Rage server.

Adding a default email address to your website for the email me links and the contact form is done in the Site Publishing settings. One time, quick and simple.

The main difference in user experience with EverWeb is the fact that the developers respond very quickly to questions and suggestions - unlike iWeb and MobileMe!

When you download the trial version of EW you will create a username and login. Then you can ask questions in the EverWeb user forum which will be more accurately answered than in this one.

There has been a lot of misinformation and unjustified criticism of EverWeb in this forum. Mostly by people who don't seem to appear to knowvery much about web design and publishing.

I should have mentioned the fact that there is a 60 day maoney back guarantee which gives you plenty of time to test out the performance.

Yes I noticed that. I'm going to give EverWeb a try. iWeb is still working in OS X 10.9 and I'm still getting good site rankings in the search engines. BUT, I've noticed in Google Webmasters, more issues with some pages are creeping (for Halloween) into the analytics. Hasn't effected ranking yet, but it may be time for a fresh start.

I may be the last person in the iWeb Universe to feel this way, but I still don't get why Apple discontinued iWeb. It could have been such a great App, optimized for IOS and Cloud based as with all the other Apple Apps..

Not meant to be, that's all.

Anyone know how Everweb compares to Sandvox?

Everweb is pretty much a more advanced iWeb. You can drag your text and images anywhere whereas Sandvox doesn't really let you do that.

Sandvox is more restrictive and limited in where things can be placed on your web page.

allaboutiweb.com wrote up a pretty good review comparing Everweb to iWeb

    Worth a read.

I really love iWeb but wondering if I should go to EverWeb or bite the bullet and learn WordPress.  It's not visual like iWeb/Everweb but I'm wondering as far as SEO if WP is a better idea?  Do they have blogging in EverWeb yet?
