Q: EverWeb??

Anyone ever hear of EverWeb. I got an email advertising it. At first I thought it was an email from EasyWeb saying they were going out of Beta.

EverWeb has built in SEO and you can improve this by using HTML headings.

The full blogging feature is not implememnted yet but you can create a blog....

I don't recommend it if you are looking for standalone software. You must login to their server when you publish to a folder on your computer or if you FTP files. This is not my definition of standalone software. I don't understand why you must go through their server if you are not using their webhosting services. If they have server problems and you can't login, you can't do anything to your webpages. As it happens, this is exactly what happened to me when I purchased the software. I requested a refund because I lost a client during this downtime. The company was good with the refund and the support seemed helpful, however. One last thing, I found it odd that they didn't have a telephone number support. At least, I couldn't find one on their support pages. I couldn't talk to anyone and everything seemed to be done by «tickets».

Overall, the company seemed good but the software was not for me. I need something that is completely standalone.

I think you must have had an older version of the software. I use it now and I publish directly from Everweb to my Godaddy hosting. I do this with 4 different websites. I don't have to publish to a folder (I think you had to do that in the beta version but not any longer).  I'm not going thru their servers so I can update any time I want.

So far I like the software and it is stand alone. It's far more design oriented than working with Wordpress.

I had the latest version (1.6) and you don't have to publish to a folder if you don't want to. You have three options when you publish:

    1) Everweb (if you purchased webhosting services)

    2) local folder (on your computer)

    3) FTP server

You MUST login to have access to these options. If you can't login, you can't publish. I know because I couldn't login and, therefore, I couldn't publish my pages. This is not stand alone to me. It is possible that you login only once at the beginning when you purchase the software and never again after that. I don't know because I couldn't login from the beginning. I didn't expect to have trouble from the get-go. It is not a good feeling when you can't get to first base immediately after you make a purchase. Nevertheless, everything turned out ok because the company was good and provided me with a refund.

I am now looking at other possibilities to replace my aging iWeb.

Yes I agree problems right out of the gate is never a good thing. I didn't have any issues and I don't think to make changes to any of my sites I'm going thru the Everweb site. But either way I've never had any problems with it or with publishing on a few different hosting places (godaddy, bluehost and ITX).  I love the drag and drop aspects of it and feel it's much more similar to iWeb than dissimilar. Nothing like Wordpress, which I'm not fond of.

Do you have to login to their server every time you publish your pages?

No which is why I said you must have had some older version of the software because I don't have to log in to Everweb's server at all. You do if your hosting is Everweb but mine is not, mine is Godaddy. Everweb has a few pricing structures, one, the least expensive is for the stand alone software. Maybe you purchased one of the others?

I think the confusion is because you need to be logged into EverWeb to be able to publish your site. Don't know if that means going thru their servers.

    Here's the why :

You need to login so EverWeb knows which version you purchased and when your update plan expires.

Correct me if I am wrong, it looks like one must «login» to Everweb everytime one wants to publish. The reason given is: You need to login so EverWeb knows which version you purchased and when your update plan expires. Why does the company need to know what version you purchased - they have that information already. Why do you have an expiry on an update plan? Sorry, I just don't get it.

You don't have to log in every time. You purchase either the standalone version or standalone + hosting plan. You then sign in either thru EverWeb Preferences or other various ways. Once you sign in via EverWeb Preferences, you are signed in until you sign out. So once you sign in, you stay signed in. Signing in makes publishing your site active.  Other wise you can only view your site and changes in Preview mode, which in itself is nice.

I just started with EverWeb so I'm no expert, but from what I understand, even EverWeb (Rage) does not think the signing in process is the best method of knowing who has what and when it expires.  So this process may be changed with future updates.
