Video Encoding Error after system upgrade

It's generally safer to make your iDVD 'burn' to a disk image file and then burn the disk image file to a DVD with Disk Utility. This separates the encoding process from the actual burning process and over the years has proved to be much more reliable.

There are several versions of Disk Utility, but basically follow the instructions at: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH5824

This approach is also the best way to make several DVDs of the same project.

OK, we've elimated that issue.

You might try creating a simple new iDVD project and see if it encodes to a disk image file.

If it works, you'll know the problem is related to your old iDVD project and you'll have to recreate the original project from scratch.

It sounds like one of the components of your project got corrupted.

Try breaking the project down in to limited pieces to see if you can identify to problem file.

It Appears with Mavericks, iDVD won't work with M4V, but will work with MP4. I Converted a couple of home movies from FCPX to MP4 and IDVD worked fine apart from removing the chapter markers.

I too have the same issue. No problem before upgrading to Mavericks. This is what I found.

If I am using something I created in iMovie I have no problems. If I have a file not created from iMovie, I get the error sometimes. I create a lot of files from Handbrake to put on my Apple TV. If I select Apple TV 2 in Handbrake, I get the error when putting in iDVD. If I choose Normal encoding (default), I don't have the issue. Both are M4V files and are MP4 format. I look at the difference in the file encoding from command I in finder and there is very little difference. The one that won’t work has a codec called AC3. The one that works doesn’t have AC3 listed. In Quicktime, I do a command-I and I find the data rate is slower on the one that works. Other than that they are identical. Very strange. I am going to do what works.
