how can i move songs from iTunes to garageband

I followed a tutorial on Youtube that showed to click the plus sign than the music sign on the bottom right. But only a few songs came through. And why do songs not just drag over? I have used many recording systems on Windows and I am new to Mac so any help would be appreciated.

What is your GarageBand version?

You add songs to a Track by selecting them in the Media Browser pane: Open "ITunes" in the Media Browser and drag a song from this pane to an empty space in the timeline below your other tracks.

If your song is a protected audio you cannot drag it to GarageBand.

Not being able to drag directly from iTunes has been a bug in GarageBAnd '11 and iTunes. This seems to be fixed in GarageBand 10.0 on Mavericks. Maybe upgrading to newer versions will sove this for you.
