What has happened to Apple?

Okay. I've been an Apple fan since the beginning, but things are falling apart... Mavericks is buggy. Mac Mail hangs ALL OF THE TIME.. I've never had to force quit as much as I do now. My iPhone/iPad is buggy and iTunes is just going nuts. If I go to a song, it just starts flipping out and moving to other songs (and it never did that before)... Sometimes when I end a call, it never ends until I shut down my iPhone and restart it... And don't get me started on final CutPro X. I really hope that Apple follows Steve Job's ideas, because since his passing, Apple has not been as reliable and as awesome as it used to be.. Please fix... I'm using the latest MBP Retina and newest iMac and iPhone. (I liked the way it was. I wish I could downgrade)... Thanks..

Yes, it says file:///Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext/ but it always has. Only EtreCheck listed it as at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch (4050) which is what was confusing. Am I OK?

Thank You! this is a fun learning experience that is helping me avoid doing a dreaded clean install that I have done quite a few times over the years, & learn more about the system & how to make it run more smoothly. Many can benefit from this thread.

Is it true that I shouldnt mess with the other 234 kexts in /System/Library/Extensions/?

OK, I will not touch anything in /System. I have already uninstalled & reinstalled Little Snitch. I ran EtreCheck after the uninstall & restart & "at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch (4050)" was not on the report. I also checked "/Library/Extensions/" & "LittleSnitch.kext" was not there. They came back the same way after the reinstall. Is that any clearer? LOL!

Nov 13, 2013 10:32 AM in response to Rotor-Head

I thought it might be helpful if I post the reply to a question I asked the Little Snitch developer (Obdev);

Hello,

...Is the Kernel Extensions: "at.obdev.nke.LittleSnitch (4050)" the
correct & latest version?

Yes, that looks correct. Note that there is also a version 4052 when you download Little Snitch from our website, but the only difference between 4050 and 4052 is a minor enhancement in the install procedure, so there is no difference in the kernel extension itself.

If you want to display additional details about the kernel extension’s code signature, use the following command:

codesign --display -vvv -- /Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext

To check if the code signature is valid, use this command:

codesign --verify -v -- /Library/Extensions/LittleSnitch.kext

Regards,

Marco

It isn't so much an issue with reliability, it is more of an issue with usabilty. Macs just aren't that user-friendly anymore. They are still far ahead of MS, and most definately light-years ahead of Linux. But as long as Apple keeps stripping useful features from it's software, customers will continue to drift away. It just seems to be all about image for Apple now.

I can't help but read this and remember my frustrating days with Microsoft...a level of technicality that apple never used to subject us to. Seems apple has morphed into, well, one of those systems that requires all this jargon-laced tech talk, resulting in total cluelessness for the typical end user. Didn't apple products once upon a time "just work"?

In my opinion, Mountain Lion was the last stable OS that Apple did right and I am truly sorry that I upgraded my computer. Mavericks trashed my 2011 macbook pro (I won't even get into the later attempts at an up?grade from Apple) and I feel like I'm on my W7P work computer with a virus. The sheer joy of coming home to my mac is gone. Now that they are bugging up the iPhone and iPad OS as well, there is nothing left for me at apple except for Apple TV. That rocks. Simple and no need for computing power. I get that time marches on, but you have to trust updates for your equipment if only to patch security holes. So you pay the extra money, expecting a professional response, and what you receive is a sloppy, cheap and extremely unprofessional company playing planned obsolescence with you. Too bad Apple. I thought you were a grade above all of that.
